Veterans now have a new place to call home thanks to our partners at Housing Authority of Cook County! Last week, the ribbon cutting ceremony was held for Otto Veterans Square, a new 82-unit affordable housing and permanent supportive housing development in downtown Chicago Heights, IL.

This adaptive reuse of the former St. James Hospital is pet-friendly, creating space for service animals, and completely energy efficient, with partnership from the ComEd Energy Efficiency Program and Nicor and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Supportive services are offered through the Department of Veterans Affairs and Respond Now and include case management, access to community resources and emergency assistance, all of which are necessary for veterans aging in place.

NEF is thrilled to play a role in the creation of this development and is grateful to all of our partners fighting to end homelessness for those who have served our country.
