"For people who are blind or visually impaired, finding safe, affordable, accessible housing is more difficult than it ought to be in the United States. We are proud to be part of the solution."
This quote from Dr. Janet P. Szlyk, President and CEO of The Chicago Lighthouse summarizes the incredible impact that the Foglia Residences at The Chicago Lighthouse will have on the community and beyond. NEF provided tax credits to our partners at Brinshore Development, LLC for this development, which will be the first LIHTC building in the nation for the blind and visually impaired community.
A special thank you to Chicago leaders Mayor Lori Lightfoot, Congressman Danny Davis, and Alderman Walter Burnett for speaking at the August 25 groundbreaking. The new structure will offer 76 units of affordable housing and feature full accessibility for residents with contrasting colors, lit braille unit signage, handrails on both sides of corridors, and braille wallpaper. With funding from NEF and investors CIBC and JPMorgan Chase & Co., this development, which is adjacent to The Chicago Lighthouse's center in the Illinois Medical District, is set to be completed in the spring of 2024.
NEF is honored to contribute to this beacon of hope to support individuals who are blind, visually impaired, disabled and veterans.
