Congratulations to our partners at Self-Help Enterprises (SHE) on the grand opening of Palm Terrace II in Lindsay, California! The second phase of this affordable housing development offers 54 new units and completes the Palm Terrace rental community, which now provides a grand total of 104 units.
With a focus on low-income families, six of the units will be Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) earning 30 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI). Four of the PSH units will be reserved for behavioral health individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness, and the other two units will house Transitional Aged Youth (TAY) residents — young adults (18-24) aging out of foster care — in partnership with Phoenix Transitional Housing for case management and support. Many of the families in the area are farmworkers and packing plant workers who now have an affordable place to live at Palm Terrace.
Palm Terrace has high energy-efficient and sustainable features as well. It is a grid neutral Zero Net Energy Project, which also saves money for residents on their utility bills. Palm Terrace is a prime example of how affordable and permanent supportive housing can be beneficial for residents as well as the environment.
