Terwilliger Place Celebrates Grand Opening

Terwilliger
September 29, 2022

Congratulations to our partners at Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing (APAH) on the grand opening of Terwilliger Place! Located in Arlington, Virginia, Terwilliger Place brings160 units of affordable housing to the community, 50 percent of which will have veterans preference. Within the D.C. metro area, there are more 236,000 veterans with 20-34 percent being burdened by the housing crisis.

American Legion Post 139 selected APAH to help redevelop its aging site in Virginia Square to empower the community and provide stable, supportive housing for veterans. In addition to veteran housing, the new Terwilliger site also provides a modern, versatile facility for Post 139 and a template for other American Legion Posts to model their future development.

NEF is honored to have secured the LIHTC funds for this important development as well as a $100,000 grant through the Bring Them HOMES veterans housing initiative. Debbie Burkart, attended the grand opening and participated in a roundtable to discuss affordable housing practices and policies and how to provide housing for vulnerable populations.

We are grateful for all involved in this wonderful collaboration to bring more affordable housing to communities in need.
