Last week in Venice, CA, NEF's Debbie Burkart attended and spoke at the grand opening of the Journey.
Created by our partners at Venice Community Housing Corporation, the Journey is a new construction of 40 affordable housing and permanent supportive housing units with 19 reserved for formerly unhoused transitioned aged youth (TAY) and 20 reserved for formerly chronically homeless adults and families.
The Journey features a public plaza and garden, an open courtyard, gathering spaces and an outdoor rooftop deck. The ground floor is also home to administrative offices and programming spaces for Safe Place for Youth (SPY), an organization dedicated to empowering young people experiencing homelessness through lasting, community-driven solutions and services such as workshops, life skills classes and group activities. The inclusion of Safe Place for Youth allows for integration of imperative services to support TAY residents through their two full-time, on-site case managers.
