Congratulations to our partners at Mercy Housing (California) on breaking ground at the Veterans Villas at San Antonio in Norwalk, CA last week! Representatives from the City of Norwalk, California and Silicon Valley Bank were present for the celebration. NEF's very own Todd Fabian spoke at the event.
The new development will have 60 units dedicated to housing veterans. 39 two and three-bedrooms will be reserved for low-income veterans and 20 one-bedrooms (except one unit) will be for housing veterans who are experiencing homelessness or are at-risk. The currently vacant lot has been home to a library, a city senior center, and is now a staging area for street improvements.
Veterans Villas at San Antonio aims to perpetuate the lot's cycle of creating a positive community impact with supportive housing. As of a 2020 report from HUD, California had the highest number homeless veterans and creating affordable housing for people who have served our country is critical. We are proud to partner with Mercy Housing on this new affordable housing community for veteran households!
